First, the only bad: the shipping container is not worthy of these contents. First shipment showed up with the stock broken clean in half just behind the trigger. I would not have believed it if I'd not seen it myself. But beyond the disappointment of having to wait 2 days for replacement, no impact on anything. Amazon and Benjamin just handled it.
Setup:
a. If you don't already know, this thing is accurate well out beyond 50 yards with no special effort on your part, so a relatively high power scope is needed to exercise it. I put a 3-12 42 on it and honestly could use more magnification. Medium height scope rings are probably good up to about 50mm objective. Beyond that get highs. Also, the one piece (including the offset) scope mounts are probably not going to work with the cartridge magazine setup of this gun. I tried two and could not make either of them work, though some shooters report they've figured it out. Ended up with UTG 2 piece medium height, they are working great.
b. This is my first PCP and I thought long and hard about what pump to go with. After reading a lot of reviews and looking at lots of hand and electric pumps, decided the cost difference between a reliable hand pump ($150) and a low end electric ($200) was small enough to go for it. Opted for one of the 4500 psi Chinese compressors when it went on sale. Went under the brand Happybuy but is indistinguishable from the Yong Heng models. In any case, I believe that was a good decision. Takes only 45 seconds at most to move tank from 2000 to 3000 psi. Hand pumping does not sound that bad (I do not shy away from physical work), but when target shooting it's nice to focus on the shooting and the company and not on leaning on a pump for what sounds like 150 strokes per fill.
Performance:
a. Once zeroed, repeatedly put 10 unmatched out of the box Benjamin 27.9 gr through a 1" circle at 35 yards without really even working on stance or breath control. Routinely put 8 of 10 in same 1" circle at 50 yards. Really looking forward to seeing what it will do with good bench, matched pellets, and a little effort on my part.
b. The 3000 to 2000 psi range gives about 16 shots, which is two of the little magazines so that works out ok. I have not put meter on it, but the flight height difference at 50 yards between 3000 and 2000 psi is about half an inch. More serious shooters report keeping the gun between 2600-2800 gives very repeatable performance.
Again, FOR THE BUCKS, COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED. This was my affordable way to experiment with PCP shooting, and it is nice to be able to get a serious platform to experiment on for under $500. Looking forward to squirrel season as well.
Note: My 22 cal. Marauder does not have the accuracy of my 25 cal. I have not yet found a pellet that it is in love with. I have one tin of Crossman domed pellets that is seems to like better than most. With the pellets from that tin it can shoot almost as well as my best break action rifles. (20 out of 20 in a 1/2" circle at 10 meters) I suspect that the barrel is a bit on the large size. I don't know what happened to my pic's of the targets that I shot with the 22 but I can't seem to find them anywhere. My 25 puts them much closer to the center, for what that is worth. Great rifle, but get the 25 if you want to kill stuff.
Update: 6-29-2017:
I installed a decent OA scope ( a very old BSA 4 x 16 x 50 contender) and shot some 1/2" dots at 10 meters. 40 shots 40 hits many of them dead center. I used these pellets with great results. BD225 Benjamin Sheridan, Domed Pellets, .25 Caliber, 27.9 Grains, (Per 200) This is equal to a 40 shot group with a center to center spacing averaging less than 1/4" I think the rifle can do better but I am not a great shot. I think if I switch to 1/4 inch dots I can do better. The 1/2" dots are to large to center the cross hairs on.
Update: 6-23-2017 WE NEEDMORE STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the 22 so much I bought the 25 cal. It is just incredible. I mounted my ancient Daisy 3 x 9 x 32 non AO scope, filled it to 3000 psi and went to the basement 10 meter range. WOW! The scope was off to the left just a bit, but the first 8 shots went through the same hole! I tweaked the scope and put 16 more thru the second hole. I then switched to one of my favorite targets, a Tea can and shot Arnold in the hand, heart, head, jewels and both shoulders and elbows, turned the can on its side and shot the rivet off the pull tab with one shot. I then turned the can around and put 3 shots thru the same hole in 5 different locations. The yellow panel on the umbrella makes a nice point of aim. The Raccoons in my barn are in for a world of hurt.
Targets are 10 shot groups with cheap pellets and even cheaper non AO scope, first 60 shots with new rifle. Just incredible!
I shoot air rifles for fun and exercise. I have many and average 100-200 shots per day. The Magnum springer rifless, Hatsan 125's Hatsan 125TH Air Rifle Combo, Camo Stock air rifle and Ruger Air Magnums Umarex 2244029 Ruger Air Magnum Break Barrel Single Shot 0.22-Caliber Air Rifle, Black Matte Finish give you a great upper body work out. The Beeman P17 Beeman Marksman P17 Deluxe Pellet Pistol with Sights and Hatsan 25 Hatsan Model 25 Supercharger Air Pistol air pistol pistols are great for hand and wrist strength training. Until now I had not found an air rifle that will give you a cardio work out. The Marauder will. My other 4 PCP's only require 2,000# pressure and are easy to fill. The Marauder takes 3,000#. Pumping it up by hand 4 or 5 times will certainly raise your heart rate. The fact that the rifle is such a nice shooter, accurate, quiet, and a good trigger makes it one you will want to grab first. It is the final missing piece to my air rifle fitness routine. You just cant go wrong with a Benjamin PCP
